Summary : Photographing people from a
commercial point of view needs to express purpose. Questions need to be answered based on
the type of business and where the pictures will be placed. Does the company want to portray
a formal or casual look or maybe both. For example, a formal look for their website and a
more casual look for social media. Expressing the character of the company is as vital as
capturing the character of the person.
Olson Windows, Doors, Siding
and Roofing (Pictures 1 – 11): Headshots: A clean look/feel was my intent
with the black background and simulated spot lighting gradating upward. I was thinking more
architectural for these pictures and felt the dark background would stand out well on their
website and in online media publications. We also shot a couple of casual pictures of Brian
and Scott Olson for potential use on blogs and social media.

Morkes Chocolates (Picture
12): Photographing the boys with the Morkes Chocolates ‘Sweet’ caps was a
fun challenge. I just decided to take as many pictures as I could before these charming
little boys lost their patience with me and decided to go outside and play. Fortunately,
their mother was on hand to help out. The moment arrived and it really didn’t take too long
before this picture felt right. The words on each cap were legible and their poses were as
perfect as I could expect under the circumstances. The boys really were a treat to work with
and thanks to their mom as well!
